CAB at the Woods

So our first event of the year was an awesome and attractive, I must add, duo, Truman. They are two brothers from Nashville, TN, and their music has been likened to John Mayer, Maroon 5, etc but they certainly have a style all their own. Very down to earth and personable, Ben and Chad Truman were the perfect addition to our “Coffee Shop Series” we hold inside the Dome a few times a year. Before the performance I decided to do a short interview with the boys to get a better idea of their style.
They started in Nashville, having grown up there, and their dad being a member of the popular country group, Diamond Rio, naturally their path led to music.
The coolest place they have played, besides WWU of course, was in Utah, where they actually were born, and they got to open for Kelly Clarkson.
Their craziest story from the road, which they admitted haven’t had many opportunities to have crazy moments yet only having toured a few months now, was at the Battle of the Bands at Brigham Young University. Ben just graduated from there in the spring, and Chad attends there as well, but has taken a break. Their drummer, playing at the Phil Harmonic right before this, was not at the performance on time and they had the emcee stall as long as possible, and just when they thought they were going to have to forfeit, here their drummer comes running up the stage in his tuxedo. They ended up winning the competition. What a beautiful disaster!
When asked if they ever feel like they are together too much, they compared themselves to a married couple, implying a “Yes, but we love each other!” attitude, which I found charming. :] They also said that there is barely anything that they do not agree on, including that Stevie Wonder is the best musician of all time.
When on the road, the thing they miss the most is simply not being in the car, little things such as sitting on their couch back home, maybe with a girl?
Their first CD, Hold on to Love, released back in June, was in their hometown of Provo, Utah, in an alleyway, but it was awesome because they have such a huge fan base there, much like at the AXO house, where I can’t walk down the hallway without hearing one of their songs, and I love it!
